How Do I Pack My Photos for a Move?

We prepared a guide - click on the "Moving Family Memories" to download a version to print and refer back to as you pack photos and other types of media.

QuickGuide Moving Family Memories

Our steps to moving your photos to a new home include:

  1. Prepare - gather bins, supplies to have what you need to pack photos securely
  2. Gather - look all over for where pictures may be hidden. As you are going through drawers and packing other types of supplies, look for pictures. When you find pictures, place them in a box or bin to go with the other photos you have collected. This includes the digital items you may have photos saved on - such as DVDs, CDs, jump drives, and even old floppy drives, if you have them.
  3. Move - handle your photos during the move personally; this is no time to trust hired help or family help to ensure your family memories are safe through the move - do not store in temporary places.
  4. Enjoy - unpacking your photos after all the other work has been done. You can then take your time to sort out duplicates and unwanted photos. Family and friends may have fun seeing the old memories once again. This could be an ideal time to consider digitizing your photos and other media so that your photos are properly backed up.
